The Vanderburg Gold Mine

In the year 1799, a 17 pound gold nuggett was discovered in Cabarrus County and until 1850 that area produced more gold than any area in the U.S.

There was a Vanderburg Gold Mine located in Cabarrus County. This mine was Incorporated under New York law. The 52 acre tract that included the gold mine was sold to the Buffalo and North Carolina Mining Company on the 17th of August 1868. The history and the stock distribution of the Vanderburg Gold Mine, Inc. is not known.

"copied the deed arrangement w/ the New York Co. off of micro-film. It is very difficult to make out. Regarding the property lines etc. the only identifier to help me is that part of the boundary was Adams Creek. I am going to attempt to transcribe a portion" Christina Hunt on the Carolina_Gen conference FidoNet

"My husband has a book of Topo Maps he bought for camping and Adams Creek is on it to the east and south of Mount Pleasant. Hwy 49 crosses the Creek and is an old Hwy if I understand correctly. We live off Hwy 49 in S.W. Charlotte and it has been here since the Indians used it to go North. Reeds Gold Mine looks to be 6 or 7 miles south of Mount Pleasant. I did question an acquaintance about whether Reeds Gold Mine had a library and was told there was a librarian or historian or ? who could probably help with this question. I just have never gone up there yet. I had hoped a more extensive topo of this area might show an old mine. Will try to get a hold of one or learn the # of which US Geological Survey Map would show the area. Well, thats where I am w/ it. RE: the description, the lack of punctuation is from the document. I tried to copy as closely as I could.
