Van Cleave Locations

There are several places in North America and the Netherlands named for members of the Van Cleef/Cleve/Cleave family. Pictured here are just a few. If you know of more locations that should be included please send me an e-mail.

This lovely lake in Seneca County, New York is named for George Cunningham Van Cleve 1794-1844, son of Lawrence Van Cleef 1754-1830 and Sarah Angevine. George and his wife, Joanna W. Squires were parents of 13 children.

Located in Seneca Falls is the Van Cleef Homestead Bed and Breakfast in the house built by Lawrence Van Cleef in 1805.

And in Amsterdam is the hotel Die Port vanCleve

Then in Jackson County, Mississippi is the town of Vancleave, population 3,000 (1990 census)

Named for Robert Adrian Van Cleave 1842-1908 son of Jonathan Van Cleave and Elizabeth Rowland Perkins. Robert and his family moved from Yazoo County to Jackson County following the War. He established a general store along Bluff Creek in 1868. He served as the first (appointed) mayor of Ocean Springs, Mississippi in 1892.

In Breathitt County, Kentucky is the community of Van Cleve named for the family of Andrew Van Cleve, half brother of Jonathan (above). We have no photographs of this community and would welcome some to add to this page.
