VANCLEEF/CLEVE/CLEAVE

CONNECTIONS

There are also connections to Schenck, Van Couwenhoven, Rapalje,
Van der Bilt, Van der Beek(Remsen) and other early Dutch
settlers of the new country.

This material is not my research. I have gathered information from several sources including gedcoms that
were contributed. It is placed here in the hopes of helping others to find clues for their own research or
answers to questions. It must not be considered absolutely correct. In preparing this material I've
discovered a 6 year old bride, a person who married in January, was born in March and died in the fall,
all in the same year. One woman married two different men twenty days apart and in another place was
an eleven year old groom. I have no idea what other strange happenings you might discover.

I've been asked about my interest in the Van Cleef/Cleve/Cleave family. It came about partly because of a handwritten outline my maternal grandmother compiled when I was a teen-ager. She had corresponded with Mrs. Georgia Gosney Wisda (a well-known Van Cleave researcher) during the late 1940s and early 1950s and at one time I typed up that brief genealogical sketch. My mother was the second of 10 children of Roy Daniel and Nellie Lee Vanderburg Van Cleave of Sebastian County, Arkansas. When the Cadette Girl Scout Troop I was leading began work on their My History interest project in 1977, one thing just led to another.
