2 CONT According to a handwritten genealogy Jonathan was a "Tennessee giant"
2 CONC - 6' 4" weighed 250 lbs, wore an 8-1/2 hat, 13 shoe and died at the
2 CONC age of 84.  He was a successful "planter" in the Yazoo district
2 CONC (Mississippi) and was a great hunter.  He was a natural mathematician
2 CONC but never had more than 30 days schooling in his life.  He was also
2 CONC skilled in medicine.  The above mentioned handwritten genealogy was
2 CONC written by Nell Vanderburg Van Cleave during the 1950s.  She had been
2 CONC in touch with Georgia Gosney Wisda, a Van Cleave genealogist who
2 CONC apparently passed along much of the Van Cleave information.

1 NOTE Johannes Bast (Bost) was an educated German, a farmer, the father of
2 CONC fourteen children and all were ardent Lutherans.  The first records
2 CONC found to date (1974) are in the History of Old Williams Township
2 CONC Congregation {Lutheran} of Bucks Co. PA, but now in Northampton County
2 CONC due to county line changes.  Here we find the names of his wife
2 CONC Susanna Catharina and nine of his children.  Their church activities
2 CONC are set forth from 1740 until the late summer 1754.  It is safe to
2 CONC assume that the whole family left Pennsylvania by early fall 1754 and
2 CONC came to North Carolina where they settled in this community of many
2 CONC German families.  This family is not to be confused with the French
2 CONC Huguenot one of the same name - BOST - which fled France and years
2 CONC later some came to America.

2 CONT In 1772, Christopher Rintleman (also one of our ancestors) and
2 CONC Christopher Layrle went to Germany at their own expense, seeking a
2 CONC minister and a school teacher.  The Consistory of Hanover assisted
2 CONC them in locating the minister, Adolphus Nussman and the teacher,
2 CONC Johann Gottfried Arends.  These two arrivedin North Carolina in the
2 CONC summer of 1773.  In 1774, Adolphus Nussman, the first Lutheran
2 CONC minister in North Carolina moved to St. John's Church community and
2 CONC became their first pastor.

2 CONT Records found of the Liebfrauen Roman Catholic Church in Westphalia,
2 CONC Germany show  that Adolph Nussman was baptized July 12, 1739.  Usually
2 CONC a Catholic child is baptized on the day of birth (at that time).  His
2 CONC mother was married twice, her maiden name was Joanna Marie Hikcle. She
2 CONC first married John Casper Kroes, 15 Jan 1732.  On January 21, 1738
2 CONC Johann Nussman and Joanna Marie Hilcke Kroes were married in the
2 CONC Liebfrauen Church in Munster, Germany.

2 CONT Abigail married William Van Cleave at least by early 1765 and probably
2 CONC about 1762-3. She bore him 7 children while they resided in Rowan Co.
2 CONC NC.  To a large extent she reared the children during 1777-80 without
2 CONC the benefit of a resident husband.  Then she and the children went
2 CONC with William and other relatives from rustic but relatively safe North
2 CONC Carolina to the privations and dangers of the Kentucky frontier. Her
2 CONC eldest child was killed by the Indians probably within the first year
2 CONC of their arrival. She bore her eighth child after arriving in KY. Her
2 CONC husband died approximately seven years later. Abigail had the tasks of
2 CONC settling her husband's estate, rearing her minor children, making a
2 CONC home out of the land her husband left her, and then fighting off the
2 CONC land sharks who tried to wrest it from her. (That involved 25 years in
2 CONC the courts). She typifies the indomitable spirit of the pioneer women.

2 CONT From a letter written by Fred Tubbs in March 1990: "What a woman that
2 CONC Abigail must have been! I think I would rather have her for an
2 CONC ancestor than any number of dukes and counts. Just consider this
2 CONC scene: In September 1781, a month before William was born, she was
2 CONC part of the group moving from Boone's Station at the Painted Stone to
2 CONC Lynn's Station near the Falls of Ohio. They were attacked by Indians
2 CONC and she had to flee. Her eldest daughter was killed.  And she had to
2 CONC worry about six other children as well. Ebenezer couldn't have been
2 CONC more than six years old. Can you imagine what she must have gone
2 CONC through!  Whenever I feel any urge to tell any war stories about the
2 CONC Korean War, I"ll just stop and remember my g-g-g-g-grandmother."

1 NOTE according to letter written by oldest son in 1917 his father was
2 CONC Robert Jameson; apparently family came to Arkansas sometime around
2 CONC 1849-50. Moved to Sebastian county around 1877.  Believe he may have
2 CONC served in the Civil War in the area of Crawford and Sebastian
2 CONC counties.  Heart problems seem to run in the male lines of this
2 CONC family. Many of them have died of heart attacks in their 50s and 60s.
2 CONC A few did make it to their 70s, 2 grandsons lived into their 80s with
2 CONC one son living to be 96.  Even great grandsons have died in their 50s
2 CONC of heart attacks.  Problem with researching William and his father is
2 CONC that there are several Robert and William Jamesons in Columbia Co. AR
2 CONC at the same time.

2 CONC Barber- when she caught her husband with another woman she drove into
2 CONC town to see a lawyer and he refused to give her money for a gun so she
2 CONC could shoot them telling her she would go to jail for that and who
2 CONC would take care of her children.  Instead he gave her money to buy a
2 CONC whip and told her to use it if she caught them again.  The next time
2 CONC she found them together she whipped them both all over the field he
2 CONC had been plowing.  The neighbor woman left the community that night.
2 CONC It seems the woman would bring him a plate of cookies when he was
2 CONC working in the field.

1 NOTE  Charles J. Terrell, 71, Lawton resident since 1935, died at 9:30 a.m.
2 CONC Tuesday at the family home 1014 H, after a brief illness.  Mr. Terrell
2 CONC was born in Illinois Jan. 17, 1869, later moving to Kaufman county,
2 CONC Texas, where on Jan. 26 1893, he married Miss Alice Ellen Luttrell.
2 CONC The family moved to Lawton from Rush Springs in 1935, residing here
2 CONC since.  In 1894 he united with the Church of Christ and was a member
2 CONC of the local church at the time of his death. Survivors, besides his
2 CONC widow, are three daughters, Mrs. Walter Hood, Lawton, Mrs. Annie
2 CONC Wright, Wichita Falls, and Mrs. Leona Warheim, Washington, two sons,
2 CONC Charles and J. L. both of Inglewood, Cal.; Mrs. C. H. Shook, a cousin
2 CONC who has been in the home since childhood, eight grandchildren, six
2 CONC great grandchildren, also three brothers and three sisters and other
2 CONC relatives.  Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at
2 CONC the Church of Christ, with the pastor, Rev. Gray Carter, officiating.
2 CONC Burial in Highland cemetery will be directed by Ritter's.  LAWTON

2 CONC at 9 a.m. Monday while visiting in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Nora
2 CONC Burch at Edinburg, Texas.  Mr. and Mrs. Terrell had arrived Sunday
2 CONC night to spend the Christmas holidays with Mrs. Burch and her family.
2 CONC Mr. Terrell had not been ill.  Born March 2, 1877, in Texas, Mr.
2 CONC Terrell came to Oklahoma from his native state as a young man,
2 CONC settling on a farm in Comanche county. The family moved to Lawton
2 CONC eight years ago, residing at 1408 S. Eighth. Mr. Terrell was a member
2 CONC of the local Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors in addition to his
2 CONC wife, Naomi, include seven children, Theodore Terrell, 2512 B.; Mrs.
2 CONC E.G. West, Alma, Ark.; Mrs. Burch; Jerry Boyd Terrell, Corpus Christi
2 CONC Texas; Mrs. Stella Howell, and Robert Nelson Terrell, Hackett, Ark.
2 CONC and John Terrell, 1711 A. 22 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
2 CONC Also surving are two brothers John Wesley Terrell, 1107 J. and J. C.
2 CONC Terrell, Muleshoe, Texas and three sisters, Mrs. Vickey Gage 704 Park;
2 CONC Mrs. Will King, Sterling and Mrs. Mollie Yates, 1216 A.    Lawton

2 CONC Sebastian County, Arkansas. Also the 1900 census which gave  month and
2 CONC year of birth.  Apparently Mary Logan was his second wife; name of
2 CONC first wife not known as of June 1990. 5 February 1991 found George
2 CONC Walker in Sugarloaf Township of Sebastian County, 1860 census, a
2 CONC widower with three small children - Martha age 7, John age 5 and
2 CONC Louisa age 1. (Dec 1996 have found a marriage in Barry County, MO for
2 CONC a George W. Walker and a Polly Ann Martindale 24 March 1853.  This
2 CONC could be "our" George as someone indicated a connection to Barry
2 CONC County MO)  The 1860 Mortality Schedule for Arkansas lists the death,
2 CONC from pneumonia, in March of 1860 of a Mary Walker in Sebastian County.
2 CONC This could possibly be George's first wife.  The ages of the children
2 CONC in the 1860 census seems to fit the marriage date of 1853 and their
2 CONC birthplaces are given as Missouri.   George was a Private in Company
2 CONC F, 1st Arkansas Voluntary Infantry; enlisted 10 September 1863 at Fort
2 CONC Smith for 3 years.  Mustered out 10 August 1865 at Fort Smith. Was
2 CONC given a smallpox vaccination during the war which caused him to loose
2 CONC most of the use of his right arm for the remainder of his life.  At
2 CONC that time a vaccination was given by making a slit in the upper arm
2 CONC with a knife and pushing the vaccine into the slit.

2 CONC son Reuben.  Reuben Carver is listed in the 1870 census of Sebastian
2 CONC County, Arkansas in the home of George and Mary Walker as a farm hand.
